New Construction

1.5″ of K-13 Black controls the reverberation (echo time) in the 40,000 Sq. Ft. sanctuary at Mile-Hi Church. The resilient fibers of K-13 absorb sound energy instead of reflecting it, reducing reverberation time and making speech and music more intelligible.

Custom Colors

SonaSpray “fc” in a total of three custom colors was utilized for this renovation project at Temple Ohabei Shalom, in Brookline, MA. SonaSpray “fc” was produced in three specialty colors to match the original colors of the worship facility. K-13, SonaSpray “fc”, and SonaKrete can be produced in virtually any, custom-matched, integrated color. This capability removes the need for paint which can effect acoustic performance.

Highland Park Town Hall Features SonaKrete Premium Acoustic Finish

Originally built in 1924, Highland Park Town Hall recently underwent a major Renovation and Restoration project by RPGA Design Group Inc. Prior to this project, the Town Hall had received numerous renovations throughout the years, resulting in a complex campus which lacked connectivity between departments, and was difficult for residents to access.  These issues were addressed with a major renovation and restoration project by RPGA Design Group, which added 15,000 square feet; to accommodate extra office space, a third floor, basement, technology upgrades and more. In order to maintain its traditional elegance and branding, the RPGA Design Team skillfully applied their vast knowledge and expertise to delicately restore and preserve the Town Hall’s original features, including its iconic domed tower and Spanish Colonial Revival Design features.

Highland Park Town Hall/ DPS | Interior Stairwell

Highland Park Town Hall/ DPS | Interior Stairwell

Typical of Spanish Colonial Revival Style design, the original interior consisted of virtually all-hard surfaces. This created an acoustical challenge as hard surfaces reflect sounds degrading speech intelligibility and decreasing productivity. To address this challenge without compromising the design objective, the RPGA Design team selected SonaKrete Premium Acoustical Finish for the ceilings of the public corridors and council chambers. SonaKrete absorbs sounds rather than reflecting them; improving speech intelligibility and enhancing ambient sound quality. SonaKrete is spray-applied and hand troweled with each pass to compress the product producing a plaster like finish complementary of the historic Town Hall. In addition to acoustic performance, the application provides light reflectivity and helps highlight the stunning craftsmanship and ornate details. This project has ensured that the Highland Park Town Hall will remain a functional part of the community for many more years to come.

Neapolitan Pizza captures the feeling of an authentic Naples Pizzeria with a modern twist. SPIN! Pizza recently opened its newest location in Prairie Village, KS. The restaurant was designed by 360 Architecture.

One design challenge was presented by the original, concrete, waffle ceiling. If left untreated, concrete, waffle ceilings create excessive noise levels and reverberation which can be very damaging for business, and harmful for employees. To address this challenge without compromising the vibrant design, SonaSpray “fc” was selected in a custom matched red. The eye-catching application absorbs the excess noise, and provides optimum acoustic control.

Warehouse Bar and Grille is a masterful fusion of an upscale eatery and neighborhood sports bar. Warehouse features an enticing menu of market fresh items and gastropub fare in a stylish and inviting environment making it the ideal place for business lunches, sporting events, happy hour, and Sunday brunch. Architect Donald Lang, of Newton, Massachusetts, designed Warehouse with edgy details including concrete flooring, industrial lighting, open ductwork, and metal accents which contribute to the restaurant’s sleek yet, contrasting atmosphere.
Warehouse Bar & Grille K-13 gray
To prevent the restaurant from sounding like a real warehouse, K-13 Gray was applied to the open truss ceiling to improve the ambient sound. K-13 absorbs echo, reverberation, and unwanted noise produced by numerous hard surfaces throughout the restaurant. In addition to acoustic performance, the application of K-13 Gray completes the industrial, bold design. K-13 adheres to virtually any substrate with the superior bond strength the industry has come to expect from International Cellulose Corporation’s products. K-13 is available in five standard colors but can be custom matched to any color for any aesthetic goal.

Gather Restaurant K-13 BlackGather is a full-service, restaurant and bar located within District Hall in the rapidly expanding Innovation District in Boston, Massachusetts. Gather offers an inventive, New American menu made from fresh, local ingredients, in a distinct environment that serves as a refuge from the fast-paced hustle of the surrounding area.

Gather was designed by Hacin + Associates who also designed District Hall. Concrete flooring, wood tabletops, a soaring ceiling, and numerous other hard surfaces required special attention to acoustics. To meet this challenge, a 1.5” application of K-13 Black was applied to the open truss ceiling.

K-13 absorbs unwanted echo and reverberation while enhancing ambient sound. In addition to acoustic performance, K-13 Black provides a dramatic backdrop to the eye-catching, suspended panel system and endless strands of opulent pendant lights.

SonaKrete enhances the educational environment at Boston University’s East Campus Center for Student Services, which was designed by Bruner/ Cott & Associates, and is LEED Gold certified.

SonaKrete Premium Acoustic Finish controls acoustics within this spectacular student center designed by Bruner/ Cott & Associates. The ¾” application of SonaKrete provides a Noise Reduction Coefficient of .75 in an area which would have otherwise been prone to echo and reverberation. SonaKrete was selected in White, which provides high GE light reflectivity. This feature was utilized towards the Center’s high efficiency lighting plan. SonaKrete is a low emitting, environmentally friendly product that is manufactured in the US from 80% recycled content.

Additional sustainable measures at the Center include: a green roof on the 3rd floor, a ground and storm water retention system, low-emitting materials, day lighting & occupancy controls, full building recycling program, a consolidated refrigeration system, and more.

Through these renovations, the school was able to drastically reduce energy consumption, water usage, and overall operating cost; while improving the environment for students.

One of the renovation projects was the school’s indoor swimming pool, which was in desperate need of repair. Prior to the renovation the pool’s untreated, concrete ceiling produced unbearable echo and reverberation (in addition to being an eyesore). HMFH Architects selected a ½” application of SonaSpray “FC” in Arctic White which was spray-applied to the facilities concrete ceiling. SonaSpray “FC” transformed acoustics within the space while also providing lighting efficiency.Cambridge Rindge & Latin School

Other retrofit and renovation projects at the school included improvements to the HVAC system, installation of low-flow fixtures, rainwater collection beneath the playground, a rooftop garden, high efficient lighting/maximized day lighting, and more.

The installer provides a full review of the project’s renovation or learn more about the school’s overall transformation and view this project’s LEED Scorecard from the USGBC.
