Frequently Asked Questions
No, K-13 is not foam. International Cellulose Corporation does not produce any foam products. Our product line is manufactured from 80% pre-consumer recycled cellulose, natural plant fibers.
However, we do carry a product that can be used when foam has been specified. Ure-K is used as 15-Minute Thermal Barrier over exposed applications of polyurethane foam in existing buildings and new construction projects as a combination system to meet mandatory code requirements. Additionally, Ure-K provides acoustical and thermal benefits.
K-13 serves as both a thermal insulation and acoustic finish with a natural texture. Applications are sprayed between one and ten inches thick to meet thermal and acoustical requirements.
SonaSpray “fc” has more refined texture than K-13 and is purely used as an acoustical finish for sound control. SonaSpray “fc” is applied between ½” and 1”.
Both K-13 and SonaSpray “fc” are available in custom colors.
SonaSpray "fc" was developed when ICC recognized the need for a more refined acoustical finish in certain projects. The new product was initially named K-13 "fc" for "finished ceiling." Later, it was renamed SonaSpray "fc" to avoid confusion between K-13 and the new product.
The perfect solution for your unique project depends on the aesthetic you are trying to achieve, in addition to the thermal and sound absorption requirements.
For a project with thermal requirements, K-13 is the correct product for you as SonaSpray "fc" is purely used for acoustical benefits. If your project requires a more refined finish, however, SonaSpray "fc" may be the better choice.
